The Barbershop Belles  

Singing in the Bath
Hadrian Arts Trust has held two Singing in the Bath events. Local singers and choirs performed bath or ablution related songs at the sites of roman baths along Hadrian’s Wall. All performances took place at the same time on the same day.

Thirlwall Poetry Picnic
Our first poetry picnic was held at Thirlwall Castle in August 2008 (in monsoon conditions). This was an informal event at which poets and the public visited the castle and wrote and performed poetry inspired by Hadrian’s Wall.

Bards in the Bar  

Bards in the Bar
In October 2010 some of the region’s best contemporary poets and story-tellers entertained customers at pubs all along Hadrian’s Wall with wit, humour and imagination as they recreated the art of the ‘Bard’.

Ruth Barker at Carrawburgh Mithraeum
In July 2010 Ruth Barker, performance artist, performed a piece specially conceived for the site called Mithras at the temple to the roman god.

Ruth Barker at Segedunum
In April 2011 Ruth Barker gave the first performance of her spoken piece called And the three mothers ask: don’t you know me? This piece was inspired by the acoustic qualities of the reconstructed roman bath house at Segedunum (Wallsend).

We also work in partnership with others

For example, we helped host an evening of poetry with Simon Armitage on his great Pennine Way Journey at the Greenhead Hotel, Greenhead, Hadrian’s Wall.
